Top 10 Tuesday Freebie: 10 Reasons Why I HATE Summer

*Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish*

I hate Summer.

Why?  Let me count the ways:

1.) Sunburns- My background is Irish.  To say I’m pale is an understatement.  Sitting outside for 20 minutes without sunscreen will gain me a respectable sunburn.  The sun= IT BURNS.

2.) Humidity- I grew up in Kentucky, in the Ohio River Valley.  My hair is thick, coarse, and wavy.  It can also detect humidity from 100 miles away.  It grows into a magnificent fluff ball in the summer.  It’s hot.  And don’t get me started on what the humidity does to my already oil complection.

3.) Sweat- Do we really have to say anything else on the subject?

4.) Summer Attire- Yeah, my legs are not made for short shorts, or any shorts really (and they REFUSE to tan).  If it could be fall when I could rock some tights, that would be great.

5.) Shaving- Again, do we really need to say anything else?

6.) Mosquitoes- They love me.  I hate them.

7.) Allergies- If it grows, it makes me miserable.  And while I love the smell of freshly cut grass, my allergies hate it.

8.) Hot Cars- Nothing like hopping into a black car with tinted windows (I didn’t think of these problems until after I bought the car) that has had the windows up all day because it was looked like rain.  Speaking of rain….

9.) Impromptu Summer Storms– I only hate these because storms FREAK OUT  The Tiny Human.  Especially if they come in the middle of the night.

10.) Summer Reading– This is a love-hate relationship. I love seeing all of the kids.  I love the programs.  I HATE planning it and I HATE the hateful people who have to complain about EVERYTHING we’re doing during the summer.

I can’t be the only one who hates summer.  Who else is with me?!

  1. This was such a funny post! I much prefer Autumn and Winter because they are colder, darker seasons where you can stay indoors and be nice and cosy! I still like the “summeryness” though too. Some days can be pleasantly warm and sunny, with beautiful scenery and seasonal treats to enjoy. Those are my thoughts! x

  2. Love you so much for posting this one! I’m with you, girl!

I agree, summer is my least favorite season! Unlucky for us in the midwest, we get to experience all the terribleness of each of the 4 seasons. I even prefer winter to summer because at least when it is too cold I can always put on more clothes… When it is too hot in summer, it is not socially acceptable for me to take off more and more clothes. Haha.

  4. I love summer but I have to admit I get some of your points!

After getting heat stroke for the third time this summer, and spending every summer wondering how the mosquitoes get in my house and why they like me better than my spouse, I’m with you. Give me fall any day. I like pretty colors. And pumpkins. And sweaters.

I’m not a fan of summer either. I’m already looking for Fall. Dare I say it, I prefer WINTER over SUMMER! It’s too dang hot. My electric bill sky rockets. It’s busy season at work, so I can hardly breathe (not to mention the humidity). Bleh.

I do love thunderstorms, though I don’t have a Tiny Human to worry about. It does spook my cat though (he puffs up and it’s cute, but I also feel bad). Sadly, where I live, it seems to rarely thunderstorms or rains in the summertime.

I don’t bother to shave unless I’m going swimming, I just wear long loose skirts or trousers. Even with window shades though, I keep burning my hands on my black steering wheel.
